About Us

Germ Africa commenced business in South Africa in 1905 as the marketing division of a major UK company, Germ Oil.  Local incorporation  in South Africa, as a separate public company followed in 1938.

In the late 1960’s the South African company was sold to local management following a take-over of its parent company in the UK. In 1979 it was acquired by current management.

Head office is in Johannesburg with a sales office and manufacturing facility in Durban.

We strive to offer superior quality and service to our customers. To this end we will continue to review our product portfolio and retain an adequate and realistic stock holding to satisfy customer needs. We will endeavour to stay focused, with the assistance of our major international suppliers, on the benefits that current global research and development can offers.

We lead a strong push in local manufacturing through our FLOWRITE and GERM LUBRICANTS ranges our aim is strengthen local skills and output and in so doing increasing export revenue for the South African market.

FLOWRITE – A SOUTH AFRICAN BRAND IN THE FILTRATION INDUSTRY

Flowrite is primarily a range of filtration products manufactured in South Africa. The aim of the brand is to continue to grow the capabilities as a local manufacturer.

Flushing Strainers

A range from 50mm to 400mm and bigger, of self-cleaning strainers in carbon steel and stainless steel, with manual or automatic purging and with filtration ratings which start from 150 micron

Basket Strainers

A range from 25mm to 508mm (and bigger) of fabricated basket strainers in carbon steel and stainless steel. Standard and customised designs are available to suit most strainer applications.

Bag Filters

A range of bag filter housings in carbon steel and stainless steel, single and multiple bag designs, in standard or heavy duty construction. A full range of filter bags to suit these housings is also supplied.

Cartridge Housings

A standard range of filter cartridge housings in carbon and stainless steel, with various quick-release closures, accepting from 1 to 440 filter cartridges of 10″ equivalent length, and with connections from 25mm to 250mm. Custom-designed housings for virtually any application can also be supplied.

Filter Cartridges

A range of filter cartridges manufactured at our facilities in Johannesburg and Durban, from 10” to 40” in length, supplied in filtration ratings from 1 to 100 micron, and in numerous materials and styles.

Our exclusive range of imported filter cartridges are supplied by Graver Technologies of the USA.

Whilst we manufacture as well as import a range of filter bags from FSI/PALL, these bags are primarily used in the automotive sector due to their speciality in nature.

Our South African manufactured filtration range of products are marketed under the brand name Flowrite, we manufacture yarn wound filter cartridges as well as resin bonded filter cartridges.

The products supplied and supported by the Filtration Division are primarily geared towards the filtration of liquids and compressed gasses. These products are typically reticulated in piping systems from 15mm diameter upwards, and at pressures from 20 bar down, and the product range of the Division reflects this.
